Troop 202

Troop 202 is chartered by St. Francis United Methodist Church in Cary, North Carolina. We are a troop of boys ranging in age from 11-17. Regular troop meetings are held Monday nights from 7-8 pm. Our troop conducts meetings and outings all year.

Over the past 31 years, we’ve had 116 scouts earn the rank of Eagle Scout – the highest rank in Scouting. A number of our adult leaders have also earned their eagle rank.

We currently have around 90 scouts, 23 Assistant Scoutmasters, 9 committee members and a good number of parent volunteers. Our scouts are organized into 10 patrols. Each patrol has a mix of younger and older scouts.

Scouts lead our troop. They are elected annually into positions of responsibility by their peers. If they are selected to serve in a troop position, they meet monthly to plan the outings for the troop. Adult leaders mentor the scout leaders by using helpful advice and constructive feedback. Our youth and adult leaders are trained for their specific positions.

Our troop typically has 10 weekend outings a year along with 2 high adventure outings and a yearend trip. We attend 2 different summer camps, Camp Durant and Raven Knob. As well as, National Jamboree, Florida Sea Base, Northern Tier High Adventure, and Philmont Scout Ranch when applicable. We also have scouts who participate in various Order of the Arrow events during the year.

Focus is placed on assisting new scouts achieve advancement and on offering Eagle Merit Badge classes for scouts who are interested.

This year our troop is participating in a popcorn fundraiser.

FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE

Scouting fosters the spirit of diversity and inclusiveness among its youth members and adult volunteers, as well as among national and local council employees. Our values are reflected in homes, churches, schools, and businesses and civic organizations in communities both large and small; urban, suburban, and rural.

Troop 202’s commitment to this spirit is paralleled by our commitment to our local community – both in the youth we develop and the effect of their work in and around the Triangle.

Ensuring the youth of our community are able to fully participate in the Scouting program can sometimes require greater financial commitment than a scout’s family can afford.

Should your family require assistance with dues or fees, acquiring a uniform or camping equipment, please contact our Scoutmaster to discuss what resources may be available based on your specific financial need, Our Scoutmaster will work with you and your scout on a solution.

While this discussion will include our learning about your precise situation, know that the details of your request will be kept confidential throughout the review process and implementation.

We will work with you to identify other options for your family to pursue should your needs exceed that which our troop’s available funding and resources can accommodate.

Should you be interested in contributing resources to help make this capability possible, please contact our Scoutmaster.

Thank you.
