History
Kiwanis Park is a 1-acre park located at 400 E Holding Avenue in Wake Forest next to the Wake Forest Public Library. The mission of the Wake Forest Chapter of the Kiwanis Club is to enrich the lives of children in the area. The club’s goal was to sponsor a park that would benefit the Town’s children. The location was chosen specifically because of its proximity to the Local Library and thought to be an ideal place for children and their parents. Through grants and financial partnerships, they were able to fund the park’s land construction. The local Kiwanis chapter provided the play equipment for the park. Amenities in the park include the playground, picnic shelter and paved greenway trail.
Kiwanis Park is named for the club that provided the funding for the park. It was completed in 1997, shortly after the completion of the library in 1996. The Park equipment was updated in 2010 to include therapeutic swings, sand box, and “sight and sound” play panel.
The Wake Forest Chapter of Kiwanis International was started in 1987 by Wake Forest resident Thomas Dimmock. The mission of the over 5,000 North American Kiwanis Clubs including the Wake Forest Chapter is dedicating to improving the lives of children, one community at a time.
